Pedagogical Practice - Chamber Music Coaching
One of my greatest passions is chamber music and resultantly this has meant that over my career I have devoted a great deal of time to its practice and performance. As someone who has concertised so much of this repertoire my position as a coach is unique as I approach this music from its inner workings and give advice through shared experience.
In these sessions I aim to give insights into rehearsal technique, the way instruments of different types can interact successfully, ways for a group to grow artistically, and skills to build your own interpretation. Often knowing simply how to organise sound and who to listen to in what scenario can completely revolutionise the level of an ensemble. This in particular makes a huge difference and is why a great deal of focus is placed in this area in my teaching.
The end goal of all this however is to give groups the skills they need to become truly self sustaining. I aim to impart knowledge that will enable exponential improvement even without my guidance and cultivate thought processes that will allow truly independent creativity.
Whilst quality is at the core of what I offer I ensure my studio is also a welcoming environment where curiosity and expressing oneself is highly encouraged. Discussion of group member’s interests, both musically and of the wider world, I consider to be vitally important and allow me to truly understand the people I work with. This I use to tailor my coaching to the individuals involved, broaden knowledge in areas of interest, and encourage truly unique artistry no matter the background or level of the ensemble.
i am also a believer in building as ‘complete’ a musician as possible and make sure to interweave other related musical matters into my teaching. As a result I frequently recommend articles of interest and historically significant recordings to my students to encourage learning and the cultivation of new specialist interests.

Aural and Theory Training
I offer both intensive courses and longer term study plans dedicated to more academic and analytical training. These are essential to expand understanding and musicianship. These classes are often taken to work towards Theory and Aural exams, however I am equally happy to work with students simply looking to further their knowledge.
