Concert Violinist
“A performer of outstanding interpretive powers”
Soloist
I have extensive experience both as a soloist in a concerto setting and as a recitalist, having made repeated appearances at venues such as: the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Recital and Concert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, The CBSO Centre, the Royal Albert Hall, St Phillips Cathedral, Winchester Cathedral, Romsey Abbey, the Anvil and Haymarket, as well as countless other smaller venues across the UK. In recent years I have started exploring recitals based entirely around repertoire for unaccompanied violin. As a result I have developed a particular performance interest in Bach’s Solo Sonatas and Partitas, Ysäye’s sonatas, and Paganini Caprices.
Chamber Musician
I am hugely passionate about chamber music and as result have developed several specialisms in this area.
I was a founding member of the Félicité Piano Trio which I both ran and played in for four years. During this time we built up an outstanding performing reputation, particularly of our Brahms interpretations. This culminated with my final public performance with them at the Cadenza International Chamber Music Festival in London where our rendition of Shostakovich 2nd Piano Trio was received to great critical acclaim. I am still associated with the group and still regularly join them in numerous artistic projects.
I also founded and played for four years in the Castagnino Piano Duo where we performed the vast majority of the mainstream sonata and virtuoso repertory for piano and violin.
I have also organised and performed in many one off projects with some of the finest musicians in the UK. These have included: Schubert String Quintet D.956, Schumann Quartets, several Beethoven Quartets, three Dvořák Quartets, four Mozart Quartets, numerous Haydn Quartets, and Kodály Duo for violin and cello.
As a reliable performer I have additionally often deputised for members of other established groups, most often with the long established Saorsa Quartet, where I have joined them for several Beethoven Quartet cycle concerts alongside other performances.
Orchestral Player
I have been a member of a number of elite orchestral ensembles over the years including: the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra, Pops Orchestra, Baroque Consort, and String Orchestra, the CBSO Academy and Youth Orchestras, and the Cadenza International Festival Orchestra. In these I held a variety of orchestral seats including both Tutti and Concertmaster positions. I have also done side by side schemes with the Welsh National Opera, Birmingham Royal Ballet, and Orchestra of the Swan.
I am very experienced in an orchestral recording setting too, having played in numerous recorded concerts and specialist recording sessions. I have also both recorded for and been broadcast live on BBC Radio and Classic FM multiple times to great public success.
During my time in the profession I’ve had the great pleasure of collaborating with a wide range of famous conductors, these have included: Jac Van Steen, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Michael Seal, Kazuki Yamada, Andrew Gourlay, Jonathan Bloxham, Jaume Santonja Espinós, and John Rutter. Ensemble touring has also formed an extensive part of my career having visited Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, France, and Romania.
